A simple and useful tool for creating DVD menus etc. is TMPGEnc DVD Author. I know there are amazing softwares like DVD Maestro but this one is simple and doesn't cost too much. You can buy it as a bundle with TMPGEnc for a lower price.
Authoring with TMPGEnc DVD Author is really simple. It consists of four steps. The first is only an option between creating a new project or continuing an old one. The source setup page is more interesting:
Although it's very simple I'd like to mention some things. On the left you're making the tracks. For example if you have something like »Grandma's birthsday« and »Trip to Prague« on your tape, you'll make two tracks with these names. In the middle you're adding files (clips) to the tracks. So if Trip to Prague consists of two parts on two tapes, you don't have to join them in some videoediting software. You put these two mpegs here and the second one will be as the second bookmark on the DVD. The bookmarks can be edited in the »Edit clip« window under »Chapter cut edit«. You find the place where you want to put a bookmark and click on the »Add current frame to chapter«. New thumbnail will appear in the box on the right side.
Creating menu is another step in the process but there is not much to describe. Only »Display menu settings« can be dangerous – you have to select action when the DVD is inserted in the DVD player. There is also an option »Motion menu«. This looks nice, but I have had some small problems with it in the past, so be careful.
And now let's make the files ready to be burned! The output window doesn't keep any secret, choose the folder and begin output. DVD Author converts now all the videofiles, menus and settings to the format according to the DVD standards.
