How To Convert VHS To DVD Guide

Audio Cleaning

Software

The videocamcorder and the videoplayer itself generate noise. To remove the noise from the audio, we will have to use this:

Getting the audio stream

First of all we have to get the audio stream from the avifile that iuVCR produced. This is quite a simple task for VirtualDub.

Virtual Dub - Save WAV

Open the video file and from the menu select: »File«»Save WAV«. Choose the location and save it.

Removing the noise

The best results I'm getting with MAGIX audio cleaning lab, but if you know about anything else, let me know. It's a wizard-like program, so I won't give here screenshots about the entire process. On the page 1. Import select the source - the previously getted .wav from the video.

MAGIX audio cleaning lab - Denoiser

Go to page »2. Cleaning« and select »Denoiser« with the »Cassette recorder« sample. It works well for VHS tape too. Move the slider to get the result you are satisfied with. If you move it too much to the right, it also removes some sounds that are not noisy, so be careful.

MAGIX audio cleaning lab - Denoiser Expert mode

Probably the best result you can get with the Expert mode - click the Expert button and select the very silent part of the audio stream. It will then reduce the main sound with the one you selected.

Go to »3. Export« and save the denoised wav into new file. That's it.
